The FIA Institute has received a number of applications from National Sporting Authorities (ASNs) around the world for projects seeking financial support from the Motor Sport Safety Development Fund for 2010.
Applications opened between 31 August and 11 September to enable ASNs seeking support from the Fund to apply under any of the three safety programmes relating to young drivers, officials and facilities. For the first time, ASNs were able to submit applications via the FIA Institute’s new on-line system, which helped to streamline the process.
Applications will be reviewed by the FIA Institute, which is responsible for the enhancement and management of the three programmes. The FIA Institute will consider favourably those applications which align, or are seeking to align, with the best practice frameworks which were distributed earlier this year.
Upon completion of this process, the FIA Institute will make its recommendations to the FIA Foundation Fund Sub-Committee, which in turn will make its recommendation to the FIA Foundation Board of Trustees. ASNs will be notified by the FIA Institute regarding the outcome of their applications in November. Successful ASNs will then be expected to execute the appropriate contracts, with funding distributed shortly thereafter.
In 2008, the Fund received over 80 applications from 34 ASNs. This resulted in the Fund agreeing to support over 20 projects including the distribution of €1.6 million.
