The FIA Institute has appointed motor sport circuit design consultancy Apex Circuit Design as its partner for the Facility Improvement Programme.
Apex, which has been involved in numerous circuit design projects in recent years including the Eurasia Autodrome Domodedovo in Russia and the Hampton Downs circuit in New Zealand, was chosen for both its experience in circuit design and its work in sustainable circuit development, a key requirement for the project. It was one of four leading organisations which submitted proposals.
Clive Bowen, Apex’s Founding Director, said: “For us it is confirmation that our constant promotion of commercially and environmentally sustainable motorsport destinations as designers and master planners has been recognised and is considered of value. We are honoured to assume this new role and look forward to playing our small part in nurturing global and emerging motorsport, from ‘grass roots’ to the highest categories.”
Apex has teamed up with a number of co-consultants to provide this service, including KPMG (providing commercial modeling and financial assessment for commercial sustainability), Ridge and Partners (cost consultancy and environmentally sustainable architecture), Scott Wilson (environmental engineering and civil engineering design) and the Sustainable Hospitality Group (environmentally sustainable operations for a motorsport destination).
The FIA Institute and Apex are currently in the process of developing the best practice framework for the facilities programme, and it is anticipated that this will be released in July.
